The First Baptist Church of Rosharon, TX was founded in July 1941. The church (left) began in what was originally the local honky-tonk. At that time, Rohsaron was small rural community of farms and ranches, and there was no bridge across the Brazos river, a few miles to the west of town. Rice farming was made possible by the canals operated by the Chocolate Bayou Water Company. Eventually, the church moved from its original location on FM 521 to its current location two blocks east of FM 521 on FM 1462. In 2005, the church added its gym, youth, and children's facilities, which are connected to the original building by a long atrium (narthex). God graciously provided all the finances through the generosity of church members, and today FBC Rosharon is debt-free. While we praise and thank God for the faithful saints that have given us our debt-free facilities, our primary focus is on building living, eternally living, people. Without the burden of debt, we focus our attention and resources on ministering to our community.
Today, FBC Rosharon is a diverse congregation of believers in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are about evenly balanced between men and women, with a growing group of children and youth. Our church is a place where everyone can feel welcome, because it is growing to look more and more like heaven... a place where there will be people "from every tribe, tongue, and nation." We are blessed to have African-American, Hispanic, and Caucasion members who share the love of Jesus for and with each other. Individually, none of us are perfect, but as a group, the folks of FBC Rosharon take the initiative to care for and minister to each other and our community. One of our ministry highlights was opening our church to displaced flood victims when the Brazos river flooded in 2016. That experience prepared us to become an assistance distribution center after Hurricane Harvey. Both FBCR staff and members have donated their time and finances to plant and develop Christian churches in Bulgaria.
God has placed FBC Rosharon in a strategic position to meet the spiritual needs of a community that is growing at a pace way above that of the national average. When we look to the future, we see God bringing to our area both residential and commercial development. A Centerpoint Energy office complex, set to open in early 2019, will put 400 new employees 100 yards down the street from the church. An auto recovery and auction center will open in the next year a mile to our east. A residential community with 2500 homes is planned for FM 1462 which runs adjacent to our property.
In all of these things, our highest goal is to glorify God by leading people into a life-transformation relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Everyone is welcome here, just as they are. That includes you! Come and visit us!
